Voco Sharjah: from mock-up room to a finished floor

In a hotel the first room is not a room, it is a mock-up. It is built complete, reviewed by the client and the operator, and only once it is signed off does the rest of the floor go into production. This set follows that path from structure to finished room.
The site frames show walls being set out against a green laser line and a facade wrapped in scaffold. The finished rooms are warm and contemporary: oak-look plank flooring, upholstered platform beds, a backlit niche behind the headboard, sheers with blackout drapes and a slim black-framed mirror.
The bathrooms are stone-effect porcelain with frameless glass showers, undermount basins in stone vanity tops and, in one suite, a marble-clad tub. The waterproofing underneath appears in none of these photographs and decides whether the room still looks like this in five years.
