TSE tank: from excavation to a forest of rebar

Published
TSE tank: from excavation to a forest of rebar — the project's main photograph

A pure civils job: a treated sewage effluent tank, followed from excavation to reinforced concrete structure. The sequence starts with a tracked excavator and tipper haulage, moves through breaking out rock with a hydraulic breaker, and then setting out and starter bars.

The headline frame is the tank base covered in hundreds of vertical bars, with steel formwork panels and access scaffold around it. Facing it: crawler cranes and a queue of mixer trucks with the discharge chute in the foreground.

There is not a single finish here. A water-retaining structure is judged on its concrete, its steel and its construction joints — and those are either right, or they leak.
