Solar hot water systems
A solar panel is not an appliance you stick on a roof. It is a system with pressure, circulation and a cylinder that somebody has to connect properly, and most of the faults we are called to come from the installation rather than the panel. We size it to what the household actually uses, mount it without breaking the roof's waterproofing, and commission it with you there.

What is included

- Mounts and roof fixings, without compromising the waterproofing
- Installing the panels and the cylinder, with insulated pipe runs
- Plumbing it into the existing hot water system
- Commissioning, pressure checks and showing you how to run it
What is not included, or is done as needed
- Repairing a roof that already leaks, which is done first and separately
- Photovoltaic panels for electricity, as needed
- Replacing the existing water heater, where it is not in the offer
What it costs
We do not price from a desk. We come and measure on site, and after that you get a written quote with labour, materials and VAT set out separately.

- Sourcing & scheduleThe offer separates labour, materials and VAT where it applies, with the deposit to start and the lead time. Every revision is kept as a new version, so the history stays.
- Build & coordinationThe crew arrives with one lead answerable for the work. We source the materials and check them before anything starts.
- Finish & handoverWe walk the quality checklist with you, put right anything on it, and the work we have done is covered by our guarantee.
Questions we are asked
- Is there enough sun in winter?
- For most of the year yes, but not every day. That is why the system is tied into the existing water heating, so a cloudy week does not leave you cold — and that connection is part of the job, not an extra.
- How big should the cylinder be?
- We work it out from the number of people and how the house actually uses hot water, not from a generic table. Too large and it heats water nobody uses; too small and it runs out exactly when it is wanted.
- Will the roof be damaged?
- Not if the fixings are done properly. Mounts go onto the load-bearing points and every penetration is sealed; if the roof already leaks, that is repaired first and priced separately.
- What maintenance does it need?
- Little: checking pressure and fluid, keeping the surface clean, and an annual check of the connections. At handover we leave you a written note of what to look at and how often.
