How we quote a renovation

A renovation quote is a prediction, and predictions are only as good as what they are based on. That is why our request form asks for photographs of the actual room before it asks for a budget.

From the photographs and the measurements we build the quote in three parts: labour, materials, and the contingency for what the walls are hiding. The third part is the honest one — in a building over thirty years old, something is always different from the drawing.

You see all three parts separately. A single number at the bottom of a page tells you nothing about where your money goes, or which decisions would change it.

Once the quote is accepted, the price is fixed for the scope described. Changes to scope are quoted again, in writing, before any work starts on them.
